This new proposal, also presented within the exhibition, operates through the conceptual framework of lending and returning. By applying these notions to the exhibition space itself, both the physical environment and the curatorial concept acquire one or multiple attributes—or may exist as an un-attributed concept.
At a conceptual level, the work is shaped by those who view, contemplate, and ascribe meaning to it. Their engagement positions the work in a state of continual fluctuation—one that hovers above the conceptual plane while simultaneously mapping the shifting condition of the exhibition’s overarching idea.
This project is a collaborative experimental work with my artist friend Yuan Yue. My contribution centres on the conceptual development of the textual component, extending the trajectory of my own practice. Yuan Yue’s role primarily involves providing formal propositions. The work is ongoing: he has invited me to assist in carrying out the repetitive action that constitutes its structural core—the cyclical act of lending and returning the space as a paired gesture. This continuous repetition progressively destabilises the spatial attributes, which he considers essential to the work’s identity. Moreover, he anticipates that this formal experiment will generate a qualitative transformation in the work’s development.
