When considering the moment at which “art happens,” one must ask: at what point is this moment formally recognised, and by whom? Is it the instant of creation by the artist, the institutional decision to exhibit the work, or the official opening of the exhibition itself? An often-neglected yet crucial question is whether the notion of “art happening” possesses any conceptual coherence or significance prior to the engagement of a sufficiently present audience—an audience whose participation helps constitute a complete ecosystem comprising artists, curators, and viewers.

The project no title 2 seeks to document and preserve the individual pieces presented within the exhibition. It invites public engagement in a reflective dialogue on the shifting conditions and statuses of personal works collectively referred to as no title (not works of art). This enquiry addresses the evolving trajectory of such works as they enter the public domain, particularly as they are interpreted and activated by individuals beyond the immediate purview of the artist or curator. In doing so, the works become embedded within wider social and discursive contexts.

How do these forms of practice relate to, or justify themselves within, the conceptual framework of “art”? Might they, instead, position themselves outside the definitional boundaries of the term? The project aspires to cultivate an inclusive and egalitarian space of discourse—one that encourages critical, participatory exploration. All viewers are warmly invited to contribute to this ongoing process of reflection and redefinition.
